Computer Hardware and Software to Check Out
The Pitts Theology Library makes available the following technological tools for checkout. Please review the loan policy below before checking out materials. To checkout these items, see the circulation desk. We lend most computer hardware for a 6-day loan period, and most peripherals for a 3-hour loan period. Please note that these materials are not intended to replace a need for personal computing hardware/software. Rather, they are intended to provide you with short-term access (up to 6 days at a time) when you need a computer or peripherals for a short-term need (for example, a personal computer problem, a desire to test out a new computer system, the need to write a paper outside of library hours, or the use of specialized software installed on one of the library's computers). See below for a list of the software installed on computers that you can check out.
Loan Policy:
-
Loans are limited to current Emory students, faculty, and staff. Loans of laptops and tablets are limited to one item per patron.
-
Items on 3 days loans can be renewed once for a maximum of 6 days. Items on 6 days or 3 hour loans cannot be renewed.
-
After the renewal period, all materials must be returned to the library and cannot be immediately checked out again, in order to permit use by other library patrons.
-
Patrons are responsible for covering the cost of replacing/repairing damaged equipment. When checking out the equipment, the patron agrees that the equipment is in proper working order without major cosmetic or functional damage. Staff will inspect the item upon return, and the patron will be responsible for the cost related to any damage on the item.
-
Overdue materials accrue fines beginning at the moment they are overdue.
-
Fines for laptops and tablets are $5 per hour, and materials are marked LOST (i.e., subject to replacement fees), once they are 72 hours overdue.
-
Peripherals accrue overdue fines at the rate of $1 per hour and are also marked LOST (i.e., subject to replacement fees) once they are 72 hours overdue.
-
LOST fees are determined by current replacement cost; as of 2019, this is up to $2000 for most laptops and tablets. Items like laptop cases, Bluetooth keyboards, etc. will accrue additional LOST charges to cover the cost of replacement.
-
Library fines and fees can be paid at the Pitts circulation desk using any major credit card, including Visa, American Express, or Discover, as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay. We cannot accept cash or check payments. All Emory students' fines and fees will be charged to the University student account after 2 weeks.
