Scripture Reference:

Description: The gardener, together with his helper, is in process of planting a tree; both are tamping down the soil around the trunk. In the right background there is a country house. The Dutch artist and poet Jan Luiken (1649-1712) was responsible for drawing this emblem and for creating the motto and poem that follow. Jan Luiken and/or his son Casper Luiken (1672-1708) were responsible for its etching. The attendant scripture text is Genesis 2:8.

Motto:
The true garden
Is not on earth.

Poem:
The garden is loved by man,
Who finds there his delight and refuge;
Though in the bloom he must die:
He is then thoughtful and wise,
Who sows and plants in paradise,
Where life will escape eternally.
