Image Title: Historiated Title-Page

Description: This historiated title-page contains an image of the author, Johannes Teuschlein, presenting the book to his patron, Lorenz von Bibra, the Prince-Bishop of Würzburg (r. 1495-1519 CE) and the Duke in Franconia (r. 1459-1519 CE).  To the left is the bishop's sword-bearer, and to the right is the bishop's chaplain.  The coat of arms of von Bibra is located at the top-right of the scene.  At the top center of the image is the Madonna with child, wearing a crown and holding a scepter.  To the left is Saint Kilian, an Irish missionary bishop and the Apostle of Franconia, wearing a mitre and holding a sword, both of which are his attributes.  To the right is Saint Lawrence of Rome, one of the seven deacons of the ancient Rome who were martyred during Emperor Valerian's persecution of Christians.  Lawrence is holding a grid-iron and is wearing a dalmatic, or liturgical vestment, both of which are his attributes.
