Description: This emblem depicts a woman washing her heart in a fountain filled from the stigmata of an angel. The image is titled with the Latin CORDIS MUNDATIO, which translates “the cleansing of the heart,” and is accompanied by the text of Jeremiah 4:14. This is the seventeenth in a series of 47 emblems published anonymously and adapted from Benedictine writer Benedict van Haeften's Schola Cordis (1629).
