The image is titled with the Latin CORDIS EMOLLITIO, which translates “the softening of the heart” and is accompanied by the text of Job 23:16. This is the sixteenth in a series of 47 emblems published anonymously and adapted from Benedictine writer Benedict van Haeften's Schola Cordis (1629).
