Description: This emblem depicts a person kneeling in fear and holding a dripping heart amidst the spectacular glow of an angel. The image is titled with the Latin CORDIS EMOLLITIO, which translates “the softening of the heart” and is accompanied by the text of Job 23:16. This is the sixteenth in a series of 47 emblems published anonymously and adapted from Benedictine writer Benedict van Haeften's Schola Cordis (1629).
