Image Title: The Oppression of the Heart
Scripture Reference:
Description: This emblem depicts a demon serving an excess of food and drink to a person seated at a table. An angel on the left points upward to heaven, and the image is titled with the Latin CORDIS AGGRAVATIO, which translates “the oppression of the heart” accompanied by the text of Psalm 4:3. This is the sixth in a series of 47 emblems published anonymously and adapted from Benedictine writer Benedict van Haeften's Schola Cordis (1629).
