Image Title: The Darkness of the Heart
Scripture Reference:
Description: This emblem depicts two people pursuing a suspended heart in the mouth of a dark cave. The Latin motto CORDIS TENEBRAE, which translates “the darkness of the heart,” titles the image accompanied by the text of Romans 1:21. This is the third in a series of 47 emblems published anonymously and adapted from Benedictine writer Benedict van Haeften's Schola Cordis (1629).
