Image Title: Ark of the Covenant

Description: This image depicts the Arc of the Covenant, which God told Moses to build. This gilded chest held the stone tablets with the ten commandments as well as Aaron’s rod, and some manna. The artist has depicted these three items on the floor in front of the ark. There are two cherubim on the lid, or mercy seat, of the ark and God is speaking to Moses from between them. The engraver is J. Vanden Avele (f.1681-1717) .
