Description: The pictura of this emblem by the Italian jurist and writer Andrea Alciati (1492 – 1550 CE) features a wolf pup suckling the teat of a she-goat, the she-goat’s shepherd having rescued the pup and decided to care for it. The subscriptio notes the irony that the wolf pup, once fully grown, will prey on goats, the lesson being that wickedness is never deterred by services rendered.
