Image Title: An Evil Neighbor Brings Anybody Harm

Description: The pictura of this emblem by the Italian jurist and writer Andrea Alciato (1492 – 1550 CE) features a stream carrying along two pots, one made of metal, the other of clay. The metal pot asks the clay one if it would like to band together in order better to resist the rushing waters. The clay pot refuses, claiming that doing so would prove more injurious than going alone, as the metal pot could easily shatter clay.
