Book Title: Andreae Alciati emblematvm libellvs.
Author: Alciati, Andrea, 1492-1550
Image Title: About Those Easily Separated from Virtue
Description: The pictura of this emblem by the Italian jurist and writer Andrea Alciato (1492 – 1550 CE) features a great ship stopped in its path by a remora, or suckerfish, in spite of the force of the wind in the ship’s sails, a strength ascribed to the fish in maritime lore. The author likens this effect to the propensity of those drawn by their talent and virtue to aspirations too lofty to attain and thus stopped from progressing in their studies.
