Description: The pictura of this emblem by the Italian jurist and writer Andrea Alciato (1492 – 1550 CE) features the shield of Achilles coming to rest at the tomb of the mythological hero Ajax, the god Poseidon having taken it away from Odysseus, to whom the Greeks had unjustly awarded it, in order to escort it to the one worthy of it. The subscriptio draws from this the lesson that justice eventually prevails.
