Description: The pictura of this emblem by the Italian jurist and writer Andrea Alciato (1492 – 1550 CE) features a donkey carrying an image of the goddess Isis, before which passersby fall in worship. In his stupidity, the animal thinks the honors were being paid to him alone, causing him to swell up with false pride. His driver corrected him, reminding him that he is not a god, just a god-bearer.
