Description: The pictura of this emblem by the Italian jurist and writer Andrea Alciato (1492 – 1550 CE) features a man carrying away the produce of the fruit tree (presumably a peach tree) behind him. The subscriptio ascribes its authorship to Aurelius Ablutius – a Milanese jurist, scholar, and poet, like Alciato – written with the intent of encouraging his peer to remove from Italy in hopes that his talents might be better appreciated elsewhere. The peach tree represents Alciato: just as the tree could not bear sweet fruit until it had migrated from Persia, so Alciato must throw down roots elsewhere in order to flourish.
