Book Title: Andreae Alciati emblematvm libellvs.
Author: Alciati, Andrea, 1492-1550
Image Title: The Symbol of Concord
Description: The pictura of this emblem by the Italian jurist and writer Andrea Alciato (1492 – 1550 CE) features two hooded crows supporting a scepter. In the subscriptio, Alciato ascribes social harmony to this species of bird. Without this quality the scepter would falter. He uses this scene to symbolize the ideal of concord between rulers and the people who consent to be governed.
