Description: This sketch, representing a miniature from a manuscript in La Minerva, depicts the baptism of Jesus. John the Baptist (left) places his right hand on the head of Jesus, who stands in neck-high water as a pair of angels (right) hold his shirts. A hand from above issues a dove, which lights upon Jesus’ head. The caption below refers to Jesus and addresses water: “Qui pedibus super te ambulavit, et a Johanne in Jordane in te baptizatus est” (“Who walked with his feet upon thee and was baptized by John into thee in the Jordan”).
