Description: The pictura of this emblem by the Jesuit priest Herman Hugo (1588 – 1629 CE) allegorically figures thematic elements of its ensuing scripture citation and poem. Adorned with wings, the supplicant attempts to launch herself into the air and fly to the angel that beckons her. To her left is a small bird; on the water, Noah’s ark. The supplicant’s attempted flight speaks to her desire to be with God .
