Description: The pictura of this emblem by the Jesuit priest Herman Hugo (1588 – 1629 CE) allegorically figures thematic elements of its ensuing scripture citation and poem. An elderly woman resting beneath a tree, with her walking staff and hat at her side, turns to the observer and points to a road that stretches all the way to the distant horizon, a symbol of her long life’s journey and desire to be done with earthly affairs to enjoy the bliss of heaven.
