Description: The pictura of this emblem by the Jesuit priest Herman Hugo (1588 – 1629 CE) allegorically figures thematic elements of its ensuing scripture citation and poem. The lighthouse in the background alludes to the supplicant’s search high and low for God, her beloved. The angel blowing fiery breath causes the supplicant literally to melt. This represents the powerful effect of God’s love on the supplicant.
