Description: The pictura of this emblem by the Jesuit priest Herman Hugo (1588 – 1629 CE) allegorically figures thematic elements of its ensuing scripture citation and poem. In the background, a trade ship founders as its passengers cry out for rescue, its lost cargo representative of the failure of riches to provide a sure foundation for human life. The supplicant, weighed down by an anchor, is carried by an angel, the weight a sign of the human burden and the ability of God to bear it .
