Description: The pictura of this emblem by the Jesuit priest Herman Hugo (1588 – 1629 CE) allegorically figures thematic elements of its ensuing scripture citation and poem. A woman comes to search for her beloved in his bedchamber, but she does not find him, as he is hidden on the other side of the bed fast asleep. This scene represents the supplicant’s desire to be with God, her beloved, and her search for him where he cannot be found .
