Description: The pictura of this emblem by the Jesuit priest Herman Hugo (1588 – 1629 CE) allegorically figures thematic elements of its ensuing scripture citation and poem. An angel covers the eyes of the supplicant and leads her away from Vanity, here personified as an opulently dressed lady. This signifies the supplicant’s understanding of the eyes as given to leading one to follow after vanities.
