Description: The pictura of this emblem by the Jesuit priest Herman Hugo (1588 – 1629 CE) allegorically figures thematic elements and metaphors of its ensuing scripture citation and poem. The supplicant makes the tumultuous sea representative of her life, the vessel tossed about on the waves of her person, the storm of the passions that distress her min. The supplicant beseeches God, represented by the angelic figure, to save her from perishing in the depths.
