Description: A violet grows in a garden under an eye. A Latin inscription reads OCULUS DEI RESPEXIT ILLAM (“the eye of God looked upon it”). Another Latin inscription reads EFFUDIT ODOREM DIVINUM EXCELSO PRINCIPI (“He poured out its consecrated fragrance”). The violet symbolizes the Virgin Mary, because while it’s appearance is humble, but it is known by its scent, while Mary was known by her virtues. The eye represents God seeing Mary as she truly is.
