Book Title: Heliotropium : seu, Conformatio humanae voluntatis cum divina ... explicata. / ab Hieremia Drexelio
Author: Drexel, Jeremias, 1581-1638
Image Title: Benefit
Scripture Reference:
Description: As Israelite king David kneels facing his harp, sling, sling-stones, and other items, an angel swoops down from heaven, and more gifts—a sword, a crown, a tambourine—come raining down. Flying together under a single crown, two hearts represent human will and divine will and bear the respective messages “Accipe, Redde, Fuge” (“Receive [benefit], Return [thanks], Avoid [anything opposed to divine will]”) and “Quod vult Deus” (“What God wishes”). The caption, a quotation of David from Psalm 16:3 (though Vulgate chapter 15 is identified, as is verse 2), treats divine blessing: “Mirificavit omnes voluntates meas” (“He has made wonderful all my wishes”).
