Description: This print shows the typical attire of the inhabitants of Cape Lopo Consalves, as observed by the Dutch trader and explorer Pieter de Maares (1770-1856 CE). “A” is a great lord, fashionably attired, with several kinds of knives hanging around his body and an assegai in his hand. “B” is a woman holding a little child by the hand. “C” is a common inhabitant, attired as he goes about every day and trades with foreigners, bringing elephant tusks for sale.
