Description: A portrait of Venetian Doge Alvise Contarini (1601-1683), who reigned from 1676 to 1683. The medal on this page, Contarini’s 1676 osella, depicts Doge Contarini on the obverse, humbly accepting the banner of the Venetian Republic from Saint Mark. The mintmaster, Agostino Zolio, has his initials placed at the bottom center. The reverse contains a simple legend commemorating the first year of the Doge’s reign; the circumscribing inscription.
