Image Title: Portrait and Medal of Nicolo Sagredo

Description: A portrait of Venetian Doge Nicolo Sagredo (1606-1676), who reigned from 1675 to 1676. The medal on this page, Sagredo’s 1675 osella, depicts Doge Sagredo humbly accepting the banner of the Venetian Republic from Saint Mark. The mintmaster, Giulio Dona, has his initials placed at the bottom. The reverse displays an excerpt of the zodiac chart’s symbols—Virgo, Libra, and Scorpio—placed above the Earth, and bordered above and below by stars. The legend reads “Aqva tenperat arte”.
