Description: A portrait of Venetian Doge Giovanni Pesaro (1589-1659), who reigned from 1658 to 1659. The medal on this page, Pesaro’s only osella, depicts him on the obverse receiving the Venetian Republic’s banner from Saint Mark. The mintmaster, Nicolo Contarini, has placed his initials at the bottom center. The reverse depicts Religion (left) as a woman bearing a cross on her right should and holding a censer in her left, along with Constancy (right), a man propping up a spear in his left hand and pointing upward with his right.
