Image Title: Portrait and Medal of Bertuccio Valiero

Description: A portrait of Venetian Doge Bertuccio Valiero (c. 1594-1658), who reigned from 1656 to 1658. Valiero’s coat of arms portrays an eagle in a countercolored field. The medal accompanying Valiero’s portrait, his 1657 osella, depicts on its obverse Valiero receiving the Venetian banner from Saint Mark. The mintmaster, Bernardino Vizzamano, has his initials placed at the bottom center. The reverse depicts an eagle attacking a dragon, in reference to the ongoing war between the Venice and the Turks.
