Description: A portrait of Venetian Doge Francesco Cornaro (1585-1656), who reigned for twenty days in 1656 before dying of a fever. Cornaro’s coat of arms is vertically quartered: the first two quarters are further divided horizontally, containing an assortment of crosses and three lions rampant. The medal on this page contains a bust of the Doge and Cornaro’s arms surrounded with leaves, flowers, and spikes. The inscription “Creatvs. die. XVI. maii. MDCLVI.” marks the day of Cornaro’s accession.
