Description: An engraving of an osella minted in 1583, under the Doge Nicolo da Ponte (1491-1585). The obverse (left) depicts Doge da Ponte humbly accepting from Saint Mark a banner with the monogram “SM.” An angel looming behind da Ponte crowns him with the ducal cap. The reverse (right) depicts Saint Joseph, haloed, standing with a lily in his right hand and a staff in the other. The legend “Virga florvit prnc. mvnvs anno VI” marks the sixth year of da Ponte’s reign.
