Description: A portrait of Venetian Doge Francesco Venier (1490-1556), who reigned from 1554 to 1556. His coat of arms contains three colored horizontal stripes. The medal on this page, Venier’s 1554 osella, depicts Venier humbly accepting the Venetian Republic’s banner from the enthroned Saint Mark. The reverse bears an inscription commemorating Venier’s first year as doge.
