Image Title: Portrait of Medal of Francesco Donato

Description: A portrait of Venetian Doge Francesco Donato (c. 1468-1553), who reigned from 1545 to 1553. Peaceful times left Donato free to attend to arts, culture, and education. His coat of arms contains a set of three flowers above two horizontal stripes. The displayed medal, an osella, depicts the Doge humbly accepting a banner from the enthroned Saint Mark and contains a Latin inscription commemorating the first year of Donato’s dogeship.
