Description: This coin is an osella commissioned by Venetian Doge Antonio Grimani (1436-1523) in 1521 to commemorate his accession. The osella’s reverse (left) features the personifications of Justice and Peace shaking hands, with the Latin legend “Jvstitia et Pax oscvlatae svnt (“Justice and Peace have kissed”). The obverse (right) features Jesus on a throne and the Doge accepting a banner, emblazoned “SM,” from Saint Mark. The circumscribing legend reads “Benedic popvlvm tvvm Domine”.
