Scripture Reference:

Description: The fisherman, holding a basket and \net, stands on a dune near the beach. Fish are in his basket and on the sand next to him. At the beach, several fishermen pull in a net with fish from the sea. In the background is a village in the dunes. The Dutch artist and poet, Jan Luiken (1649-1712), was responsible for drawing this emblem and for creating the motto and poem that follow. Jan Luiken and/or his son Casper Luiken (1672-1708) were responsible for its etching. The attendant scripture text is Matthew 4:18-22. Motto: All ye, who swim in the world’s streams,/ Thou canst not escape the large fishnet. Poem: Like a fishnet on the beach, /So, Wisdom says, it will also be, /When the hand of the great Fisherman, /Will sort the catch of men; /The good into a heavenly vessel, /And the bad into an ugly hole.
