Description: In this illustration of creation, the declaration of God, "Let there be light," is rendered in Latin, Fiat Lux, at the center of the page. The sun and the moon shine on either side, and below, animals cavort in the garden of Eden. This is plate number 1, designed by G. Freman and engraved by Johannes Kip (1653-1722).
