Image Title: Capuchins

Description: This etched print features a Capuchin nun. The Capuchins are an offshoot of the Franciscan Order, founded by Matteo di Bassi of Urbino (1495 – 1552 CE), an Observant Friar, who desired to return to the primitive simplicity of the Franciscan Order. The Rule strongly reemphasized the Franciscan ideals of poverty, austerity, and contemplative prayer. The Order was until modern times the strictest of the Franciscan families, though the severity of its practices has been mitigated in successive generations.
