Image Title: Nuns of the Third Order of Penitents of Saint Dominic
Description: In this etched print, a member of the Nuns of the Third Order of Penitents of Saint Dominic has her back to a crown resting atop a pedestal and gazes in adoration on a broom, whip, and open bible, symbols of this order’s humble rule. Friar Munio of Zamora formulated the order’s definitive rule in 1285, which placed each chapter under the supervision of a Dominican priest and subject to the obedience of the Dominicans priors provincial and Masters General. From that time forward, the order was linked integrally to the Friars Preachers.
