Image Title: Dominican Nuns of the Second Order
Description: This etched print features a member of the Dominican nuns of the Second Order, which was first founded in 1205 CE and consists of cloistered nuns who are charged with study, praise of God, and prayer for the church and world. Founded by the monastic innovator Dominic (1170 – 1221 CE), the Dominican order took definite shape at the General Chapter at Bologna in 1220. At his behest, the order adopted not only individual, but corporate poverty, owning nothing but its actual houses and churches; communities, as well as individual friars, were to be supported only by alms, not by properties or revenues. The order spread rapidly throughout Europe and into Asia. .
