Description: This etched print features a member of the Abbey of the Holy Cross, a French Benedictine monastery of nuns founded in the 6th century by the Frankish queen Radegund (520 – 587 CE) as the first monastery for women in the Frankish Empire. The abbey was given its name when Radegund was given the gift of a fragment of the True Cross by the Emperor of Byzantium.
