Description: This etched print features Caesaria of Arles (468/470 – 542 CE) writing at her desk. She was the sister of Caesarius of Arles, who installed her as the abbess of the convent that he founded in 512 CE, which became very popular, especially with widows, and soon expanded to include hundreds of sisters. This religious community exhibited great devotion and care for the poor, sick, and children.
