Image Title: Ursuline of the Congregation of Paris

Description: This etched print features a member of the Ursuline Congregation of Paris, the oldest and most considerable teaching order of women in the Roman Catholic Church. It was founded at Brescia in 1535 by Saint Angela Merci. Once they were allowed solemn vows and strict enclosures starting in 1612, the original pastoral work of the order developed into the institutional form of schools for girls.
