Image Title: Martyrdom of Thecla

Description: This etched print depicts the martyrdom of Thecla, a saint of the early Christian Church, and a reported follower of Paul the Apostle. The story of her martyrdom comes from the account of the execution of a Christian of Gaza in Palestine bearing the same name. She was condemned to death in the second year of the great persecution (304-305 CE) together with a Christian named Agapius and was torn to pieces by the wild beasts to which she was thrown .
