Description: According to legend, an aging John would be carried into church by his disciples. His entire sermon consisted of the words, “Kindlein liebet einander!” (Little children, love one another!), for he believed that if this, the Lord’s commandment, were done, it would be enough. The engraver, Carl Schuler (1785-1852), has placed his signature at the bottom left. As the numeral at the top right indicates, this is plate #99 in a series of illustrations.
