Image Title: The Plumber

Scripture Reference:

Description: The plumber uses bellows to heat the fire under the solder and soldering iron. A second worker on a ladder listens to the directions from a woman pointing to a problem area. In the background is a city scene with a woman carrying a pail of water into a house. The Dutch artist and poet Jan Luiken (1649-1712) was responsible for drawing this emblem and for creating the motto and poem that follow. Jan Luiken and/or his son Casper Luiken (1672-1708) were responsible for its etching. The attendant scripture text is Isaiah 45:8.

Motto:
Lead the good
Into the heart.

Poem:
Man, in order to catch the rain from the sky,
Builds downspouts on his house,
Because he wants to collect his necessities:
It is sensible, if only he did not let the rain
Of God’s mercy, love, and blessing,
Flow outside the vessel of the heart.
