Description: One carpenter uses a hammer and chisel while working on a beam as a second works at a workbench. In the background is the house under construction. The Dutch artist and poet Jan Luiken (1649-1712) was responsible for drawing this emblem and for creating the motto and poem that follow. Jan Luiken and/or his son Casper Luiken (1672-1708) were responsible for its etching. The attendant scripture text is Matthew 7:24-27.
Motto:
Small things are pursued,
Greater ones are not considered.
Poem:
So the earthly house can be of use,
To shield us from misfortune,
As it does so wonderfully:
What then should one build with diligence,
Where life will eternally dwell
When it must move from here!
