Description: The bailiff of Antwerp arrests the Englishman Hans Bret for his Anabaptist faith and has him imprisoned in a dungeon. On the day after the court sentences Bret to be burned to death, the executioner comes to the dungeon to drive a screw through Bret’s tongue to prevent him from speaking. To secure the screw, the executioner touches a hot iron to Bret’s tongue, causing it to swell .
