Image Title: Adriaen Wens at the Place of His Mother’s Execution
Description: After losing consciousness just prior to his mother’s execution, Adriaen Wens comes to and walks with his youngest brother over to the stake on which his mother, Maeyken Wens, was burned to death. From the ashes, he retrieves the screw with which her tongue was screwed fast and keeps it as a memorial to his mother, who was martyred for her Anabaptist faith.
