Description: Of all the Anabaptist refugees arrested for their faith in Nieuwvaert in August of 1572 C.E., Gelyn Cornelius is tortured the most cruelly. The guards draw him up by his right thumb, attach a weight to his left foot, and burn him under his arms with fire, after which they leave him to hang while they sit down to a game of cards.
